Lugano certificate (Annex I LUG)

Standardised document issued by the court of origin certifying the enforceability of a decision for the purposes of the Lugano Convention.

Reference: LUG art. 53 and Annex I

To have a French judgment in civil or commercial matters (including maintenance) recognised or enforced in Switzerland, the following must be produced:

  1. the enforceable copy of the judgment;
  2. the Annex I certificate completed and signed by the registrar of the originating court.

This certificate attests to the judgment’s final and enforceable character and — where relevant — the regularity of service. It is issued upon simple request. Without it, exequatur is refused for missing documents.
